Make your own Mandala Rug

In this guide, we’ll be making a beautiful crochet rug made from Cro&Knit T-shirt yarn with both written and drawn pattern.




What you will need:


7-8 pieces of CRO&KNIT T-shirt Yarn.

• 7.00 mm crochet hook.

• A large needle for weaving in the ends.



Terminology (US):


• Slip Stitch - sl st.

• Double Crochet - dc.

• Chain - ch

• Snigle Crochet - sc.

• Increase - inc.

• Magic ring - mr.



Finished size:


A circle with 28 inch (71 cm) diameter.



Pattern instructions:


This project will be worked in rounds and the standard stitch required to crochet is double crochet (dc). The overall skill level required is intermediate.

Written Pattern


1. Round One


Step One: Using the main color yarn, make a magic ring and secure it with a slip stitch. Chain 3 (counted as 1 dc).


Step Two: Crochet 11 double crochet inside that magic ring and pull the ring’s long tail to close it. Join the round with a slip stitch in the third chain that was made in Step One.


2. Round Two


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work another double crochet in the same stitch (third chain from previous round) to make the first increase. Keep making 1 increase in each stitch around and join by making a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


3. Round Three


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work an increase in the next stitch. Keep repeating *1 double crochet and an increase in the next stitch* all the way around. Join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


4. Round Four


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work extra 2 chains. Skip a stitch and make 1 double crochet. Keep repeating *2 chains, skip one stitch and one double crochet*. After working the last double crochet of the round make extra 2 chains and join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


5. Round five


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work *2 double crochet in the chain 2 space from previous round then one double crochet in the underlying double crochet* keep repeating then join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


6. Round Six


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work one double crochet in the next stitch and an increase in the next stitch. Keep repeating *2 double crochet, increase* all the way around and join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


7. Round Seven


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work extra 2 chains. Skip a stitch and make 1 double crochet. Keep repeating *2 chains, skip one stitch and one double crochet*. After working the last double crochet of the round make extra 2 chains and join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


8. Round Eight


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work *2 double crochet in the chain 2 space from previous round then one double crochet in the underlying double crochet* keep repeating then join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


9. Round Nine


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work 1 double crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


10. Round Ten


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work extra 2 chains. Skip a stitch and make 1 double crochet. Keep repeating *2 chains, skip one stitch and one double crochet*. After working the last double crochet of the round make extra 2 chains and join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


11. Round Eleven


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work *1 double crochet in the chain 2 space and 1 double crochet in the underlying double crochet then make 2 double crochet in the next chain 2 space then another 1 double crochet in the underlying double crochet* keep repeating then join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


12. Round Twelve


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work 1 double crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


13. Round Thirteen


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work extra 2 chains. Skip a stitch and make 1 double crochet. Keep repeating *2 chains, skip one stitch and one double crochet*. After working the last double crochet of the round make extra 2 chains. NOTE: you will be left with 2 stitches instead of one. Therefore, skip one and make one extra double crochet. Join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


14. Round Fourteen


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work *1 double crochet in the chain 2 space and 1 double crochet in the underlying double crochet then make 2 double crochet in the next chain 2 space then another 1 double crochet in the underlying double crochet* keep repeating then join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


15. Round Fifteen


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work 1 double crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


16. Round Sixteen


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work extra 2 chains. Skip a stitch and make 1 double crochet. Keep repeating *2 chains, skip one stitch and one double crochet*. After working the last double crochet of the round make extra 2 chains. NOTE: you will be left with 2 stitches instead of one. Therefore, skip one and make one extra double crochet. Join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


17. Round Seventeen


Chain 3 (Counted as 1 dc) then work *1 double crochet in the chain 2 space and 1 double crochet in the underlying double crochet then make 2 double crochet in the next chain 2 space then another 1 double crochet in the underlying double crochet* keep repeating then join with a slip stitch in the third chain of the starting chains.


18. Round Eighteen


Chain 1 and work a single crochet in the same stitch. *Skip two stitches and work 6 double crochet in third stitch. Skip another two stitches and make a single crochet in the third stitch* repeat all around and Join with a slip stitch in the first chain. Fasten off.

Drawn Pattern


You can wash it with regular detergents. All that there is left to do for you now is to enjoy your beautiful rug!
